Nobody
really knows if Robin Hood really existed. What we do know is
that since the XIII century, folk tales and ballads began to
appear about him and they have never stopped until our times in
which television and cinema have also contributed to make this
character known all over the world.
Stories
about Robin Hood are a bit different in the details but they all
coincide in general. He is supposed to have lived in the times
of King Richard "The Lionheart" when he was
away fighting in the Crusades and had
left his throne to his brother John. The people of England hated
Prince John and the Sheriff of Nottingham, because they were bad
man and stole their money and their land.
Robin Hood,
who was the Earl of Huntingdon, wants to marry Lady Marian but
the Sheriff stops the wedding. The Earl and his men fight the
Sheriff's soldiers. They escape and hide in the Sherwood Forest, where Robin
Hood becomes the prince of thieves. He is a hero for the people,
because he steals money from the rich and give it to the poor.
The action
and romance of the story are the reasons for the continuous popularity of
this legendary hero who helped the weak against
greedyrulers.
